Botox Treatments and Facial Fillers

One of our patients mentioned that she gets filler and BOTOX® treatments from a nurse and wished that she could receive those treatments from our office because she felt that we – the doctor who is trained in the anatomy of the face and head – would give her more of a sense of confidence in having injections in her face. That was in 2006.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Shannon has completed training with one of the top doctors providing BOTOX® and facial cosmetics in Canada and is now providing that very service. The College of Dental Surgeons of BC has recently included BOTOX® as part of the scope of practice of dentistry in BC. Dr Shannon is proud to offer BOTOX® Cosmetic, a quick and inexpensive option for facial rejuvenation. One of the most popular cosmetic treatments available, BOTOX® Cosmetic is an injection made of botulinum toxin that works to relax muscle tissue and smooth out facial skin.

During the procedure, Dr. Shannon will have you contract your facial muscles to determine where the first BOTOX® injection should be placed. After consultation with you he will then use a fine needle to inject small amounts of BOTOX® Cosmetic into the various facial muscles. BOTOX® injections block the chemical signals that allow muscles to contract. Because the inactive muscles cannot tighten, skin relaxes and smoothes out, resulting in the appearance of fewer lines and wrinkles. The treatment is relatively painless, so no anesthesia is usually needed. BOTOX® injection treatment typically lasts no longer than 30 minutes.

BOTOX® can be used both cosmetically and therapeutically.
