Botox FAQs
Is BOTOX® Cosmetic safe?
The answer to that is an absolute - "YES". botox has been thoroughly researched and clinically used for over 20 years and is approved by both the HPB (Health Protection Branch of Canada) and the FDA. More than 13 million procedures have been performed since 2002.
botox is a natural purified protein that is extracted from a bacteria and refined into a medicine, which is similar to how penicillin is made.
How is the treatment administered and is it painful?
A very small amount of botox Cosmetic is injected into the muscle being treated. The injection is very precise and a very fine needle is used so there is minimal pain involved. Some people compare the injection to the feeling of a bug bite. The procedure is quick and simple and the actual procedure only takes about 10 to 15 minutes. No sedation or local anesthetic is needed and you can go on normally with the rest of your day immediately after treatment.
How soon after treatment will I see results?
You can expect to see results within a few days after your treatment. The appearance of lines and wrinkles can continue to minimize for up to a week. The results usually last up to four months and after a number of repeated treatments, the effects may begin to last longer.
What are the possible side effects?
Side effects are very rare and are not permanent. Possible side effects include tenderness at the injection site, small bruising, short-term headaches, and ptosis. If any adverse events occur it will be in the first week and will usually go away in 7-10 days.
Where can botox Cosmetic be used?
The most common areas for treatment are frown lines, horizontal lines that run across your forehead, and crow’s feet around the outer eye. However, you can speak with Dr. Shannon about where treatment might be best suited for you.
Will my face still have expression after the treatment?
botox Cosmetic is intended to enhance your appearance. When administered properly, you will still be able to smile, frown, and be expressive just as you were before. The treatment merely relaxes the muscle at the points of injection and the other elements of your facial expression remain active.
Is BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment safe?
Yes. botox has been licensed in Canada since 1990 and is a safe and effective treatment for a variety of medical conditions. It was approved in 2001 by Health Canada for wrinkle therapy, and extensive research and testing have proven botox Cosmetic to be safe.
Is there anyone who should not use this treatment?
Although nearly anyone can use botox Cosmetic, those who are pregnant, nursing or have a neurological disease should avoid having treatment.
Is it safe to use Juvederm and Botox together?
Yes, they are terrific alone and even better together.
